PRACTICAL FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS

Understand the physics.
Build confidence in your FEA.

Learning that connects engineering theory, modelling decisions and the results on your screen.

I’m Tony Abbey. I bring together decades of structural analysis and teaching experience to help you ask better questions, check your assumptions and get more from your analysis.

YOUR GUIDE · TONY ABBEY

Practical experience. A passion for teaching.

My aim is to help you understand what your model is telling you. Alongside consultancy and mentoring, I teach FEA courses in partnership with NAFEMS and share practical insights through articles, webinars and interactive examples.

More about Tony

Engineering understanding, built through practice.

I’m Tony Abbey, an FEA consultant, mentor and NAFEMS tutor. My work brings together structural analysis, practical modelling and engineering education. I help engineers understand the assumptions behind a model and judge whether its results make physical sense.

Through FETraining, I combine consultancy and individual mentoring with corporate training and courses taught in partnership with NAFEMS. My teaching covers subjects including introductory FEA, dynamics, nonlinear analysis, fatigue and fracture, buckling and composites.

My approach is to connect the theory to the decisions you make in an analysis: how to idealise a structure, choose boundary conditions, check a response and recognise when a result needs further investigation. Articles, Talking Shop presentations and software walkthroughs provide practical examples of that approach.

I’m also developing interactive teaching resources that let you change a model, predict what will happen and explore the results. They are designed to make the physics easier to see and support the discussion around it.
